Arizona Pain Foundation Bringing Smiles To Those Often Neglected
8 December 2009
Phoenix, AZ – Arizona Pain Specialists, a local pain management clinic, will be hosting a Christmas party for refugee children at the Arizona Medical Clinic in Phoenix on Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will provide food, games and gifts for an expected 100 refugee adults and 200 children.
Donations of clothing, personal care items, blankets, toys and other much needed items will be accepted at both Arizona Pain Specialists offices through Thursday, December 10, 2009. The Scottsdale Office is located at 9787 N. 91st St., Suite 101, Scottsdale, AZ 85258. The Glendale Office is located at 18555 N. 79th Ave, Suite E101, Glendale, AZ 85308.
Many of the children attending the event are refugees from Myanmar (formerly Burma). They fled the country when a military coup threatened not only their families’ livelihood but their lives as well. Now they are living in the US with few ties to our community. The Arizona Pain Foundation is holding this event to bring a little holiday cheer into the lives of these displaced children from half a world away. They would welcome volunteers to help make this day a special one for children who have had very little to smile about in the past few years.

Smiles Abound at Children’s Circus Event
15 November 2009 – Kevin George, Program Manager, Arizona Pain Foundation
“Thank you. It’s too big. No, it’s not. Yeah, it’s just too big.” Those were the words that Mike shared with me on Saturday, November 14, 2009. This was the day of the Circus in Love Park at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home. Mike is a very special young man who’s not afraid to share his gratitude, and what he feels.
Sunshine Acres Children’s Home is a non-profit, non-governmental agency that serves as home to 60 boys and girls in 6 different family-style homes. These children have been placed at Sunshine Acres because, for a variety of reasons, their families are not able to currently care for them. For some children, it is a short-term solution, while for other children it becomes a long-term answer.
Arizona Pain Foundation organized and funded the circus in partnership with the Circus School of Arizona, and Gregangelo and Velocity of San Francisco. The children were entertained by aerialists performing Cirque de Soleil style feats, acrobats jumping, kicking and flipping, jugglers, and face painters. They were even given mini lessons – a hit for the day. There were homemade cookies to decorate, and tables set with frames to embellish.
Arizona Pain Specialists, founders and supporters of Arizona Pain Foundation, were out in huge numbers. The volunteers grilled burgers and hot dogs, served food, and generally looked for anyway to be involved. Two of our volunteers even came as clowns and made balloon animals for the children. Of course, our own Paul Lynch, MD, co-founder of Arizona Pain Specialists and Arizona Pain Foundation, hit the beat box stirring the crowd.
Jonathon Carlson, MD said it best, “This is the reason I joined Arizona Pain Specialists. I’m able to practice pain medicine and touch lives through regular projects like this. I’m able to enjoy both my passions.”
A special “Thank you” to everyone who made this day possible. It takes many different gifts of time and finances to affect lives as we did at the Circus in Love Park. If you’re interested in finding out more about Sunshine Acres and supporting their work, please visit SunshineAcres.org.
14 Nov 2009 – Sunshine Acres Circus
(Scottsdale, AZ) – On November 14, 2009 the Arizona Pain Foundation will host a circus at the Sunshine Acres Children’s Home by partnering with the Circus School of Arizona. The Circus School of Arizona has donated their time and expertise to provide entertainment and aerial acrobatic instruction for the children. The Sunshine Acres Children’s Home has been a refuge for over 1600 homeless children since its creation over seventeen years ago. This is the latest in a series of charitable activities that are supported by the Arizona Pain Foundation. The spirit of giving through community service is a core value of the medical care delivered by Arizona Pain Specialists. Arizona Pain Specialists created the Arizona Pain Foundation and started donations upon the receipt of the physician’s first paycheck in 2007, which immediately allowed for a trip to an orphanage in Sonoyta, Mexico. For more information on the event or to find out how you can participate, please contact Kevin George at 602-481-3996.
When: Saturday, November 14th, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Where: Sunshine Acres Children’s Home, East Valley
How can you help: Volunteers are needed on the day of the event, and in advanced.
Contact: kevin.george.us@gmail.com or call/text Kevin George at 602-481-3996.

Nogales, Arizona
I went to visit the Crossroads Nogales Mission recently – researching possible locations for our medical outreach program. Located on the border of Nogales, AZ and Nogales, Sonora in Northern Mexico, this mission is incredible in its ability to meet the needs of so many with so little…
Nogales, Mexico
Victor and Kay Hoehn of Faith Outreach for Christ live in Rio Rico, AZ where they are semi-retired teachers. However, there hearts lies in the streets of Nogales, Sonora just minutes a way and yet a world
apart. They teach classes in Mexico three nights a week and are involved with seven different churches where they describe there work as the “helps ministry.” This drastically under-estimates the impact
these two kind souls have on the people of Nogales, Sonora.
Sonoyta, Mexico
My wife and I went to Esperanza para los ninos (”Hope for the Children”) several weeks ago. This orphanage in Sonoyta approximately 50 miles south of Lukesville, Az takes care of 30 beautiful children. We took collections for several weeks and were able to take donations from many of our business partners here in Scottsdale. We were able to donate a 3 month supply of children’s vitamins for each of
the children in the orphanage. It was very exciting to us here at Arizona Pain Specialists that our first paycheck came in just a few days before we left for our trip so we were able to donate this check to the children’s home. It wasn’t a lot, but we were very excited to be making a difference through our clinic.
